An Open Letter to My Twenty-Something Girls

Make your own path. Who cares if it’s not conventional and what people expect of you? All your life people will give you advice, sometimes advice that doesn’t apply to you at all. Ignore them. Do what makes you happy because at the end of day you’re the one that has to live with it. Stop trying to make everyone happy, you’re giving and giving but what are you receiving? Stop chasing people who don’t even ask how you’re doing. Focus on yourself; focus on your personal growth. You have to spend your entire life with yourself so make sure you’re who you want to be. Take time to love yourself, tell yourself one thing you like about yourself every day. Look in the mirror and learn to love what you see. I promise one day you truly will. People will try to bring you down and tell you you’re not good enough, so love yourself louder. Look back, but only a glance, and be proud of the progress you’ve made.

You’re so young and you have so much to offer, don’t let anyone extinguish the fire within you. I know you think you’re stuck and everyone is moving forward but you are exactly where you’re supposed to be. Your timeline doesn’t need to look like everyone else’s. Don’t look at other people’s highlights and compare them to your struggles. Everyone is struggling in their own way but we just don’t see it. Don’t get the illusion that someone’s life is perfect. You’re not lost, you’re not stuck, but in a transitional phase, like everything this too will pass. If you feel tired and worn, rest. Give yourself a break, you know you deserve it. Who cares if something takes you a little longer? Just because you took a little longer than others does not mean you failed. Care for yourself, your body, your mind, your soul. Take care of yourself, love yourself the way you care and love everyone else. Keep living your life for you and all the right people will find their way to you. You will find your place in this world as long as you keep trying, I promise.

With Love,

Mehak
